Rogowski Coil, it is an AC current sensor that mainly consists of the following parts:
1、 Core components
Coil:
It is the core part of Rogowski Coil, which is made by uniformly and symmetrically winding several turns of wire on a certain shape and size of non ferromagnetic material (such as plastic or ceramic).
The shape of a coil is usually a hollow ring, with flexible and rigid options, and can be directly fitted onto the measured conductor.
The number of turns, wire thickness, and winding method of a coil can all affect the induction effect of its electromagnetic signal.
Integrator:
Due to the linear relationship between the output signal of Rogowski Coil and the rate of change of the measured current, an integrator is required to reconstruct the waveform of the measured current.
The integrator usually includes components such as capacitors, which are used to integrate the induced electromotive force output by the coil, thereby obtaining an output voltage proportional to the measured current.
The design of integrators has a significant impact on the low-frequency performance of sensors.
2、 Auxiliary components (may include but are not necessary)
Power supply: In some applications, Rogowski Coil may require an external power source to supply power, but not all Rogowski Coils require a power supply.
Signal processing circuit: In addition to the integrator, it may also include other signal processing circuits for further processing and amplification of the output signal of Rogowski Coil.
3、 Summary
In summary, Rogowski Coil is mainly composed of two parts: coil and integrator. The coil is responsible for inducing the magnetic field changes generated by the measured current and outputting an induced electromotive force proportional to the rate of current change; The integrator integrates the induced electromotive force output by the coil to reconstruct the waveform of the measured current. In addition, depending on specific application requirements, Rogowski Coil may also include other auxiliary components such as power supply and signal processing circuits.
